Featuring over 14\,000 wines from 32 countries\, innovative tastings and critical masterclasses\, it’s a superb platform showcasing outstanding wine from around the world. \nAs someone still finding her feet in the treacherous land of oenology\, it’s an unparalleled opportunity to taste particular wines which I have been longing to try. Plus the chance to encounter international classics alongside new and largely unexplored varieties and styles\, conveniently under one roof. \nThere are a plethora of compelling features to the Fair.  For example\, The Innovation Zone showcases some exciting start-ups and new wine technology in an open style theatre\, which hosts TED-style talks and thought-provoking panel discussions. \nThe Masterclasses\, in particular\, are an outrageous wealth of information. I’m very much looking forward to rediscovering Old Spain with Owen Morgan and Louise Jorgense speaking on Sherry and Vermouth and a taking a fresh look at Greek Wines with Yiannis Karakasis MW & Terry Kandylis. \nMost inspiring of all is the unique chance to connect with actual winegrowers and vintners. Discovering the story behind the grape gifts an even wider appreciation of what I’m swilling in my glass.

SUMMARY:The Real Wine Fair
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe month of May is looking like a wine glutton’s dream. Later in the month is the London Wine Fair\, but to get us more than warmed up\, is The Real Wine Fair. The standout difference being that the latter is dedicated to artisan vine growers specialising in naturally made wines. \nHere’s an excellent opportunity to get to grips with organic\, biodynamic and natural wines showcased by over 160 of the most talented independent winemakers from around the globe.  Adding value is an array of guest speakers\, seminars and masterclasses\, plus international street food stalls to keep you standing through the day. I’m looking forward to wine pairing with traditional French fare from La Cour de Rémi and gorging on dairy with the London Cheesemongers\, who promote raw milk and farmhouse methods of production. \nAs the world slowly moves towards kinder handling of the planet and greater sustainability practices\, the chance to connect with wine growers and gain first hand understanding of natural wine principles is a delicious\, especially unique experience. \n

SUMMARY:THREE WINE MEN- WINES OF SOUTH AFRICA
DESCRIPTION:  \nI get it\, Three Wine Men obviously sounds a little like Three White Men (that’s clearly the intended play on words here right… right??!). TWM banging on wisely to the chosen few. Enough to make you shudder and run to your nearest Off license. Thankfully these chaps are nothing of the sort. Amiable\, witty and super serious wine buffs\, their attitude towards wine is both approachable and easily digestible. Mix this with an ‘all you can taste’ expo\, showcasing the best of South African wines\, and you have a cocktail for success- happily downed by blushing novices and bullish professionals alike. \n  \nThough the main draw card to this event is the opportunity to speak to some of the growers themselves- which is simply the best way to get to grips with a countries terroir and its winescape intricacies. South Africa is generally lauded for its graceful Pinot Noir and voluptuous Chardonnays\, yet its own signature grape- Pinotage\, is often overlooked and underrated. But despite commonly written off as tar ridden and synthetic\, a well made Pinotage can be a thing of intense beauty. Broodily dense in colour and bold in flavour\, with deep notes of plum sauce\, liquorice\, earth and tobacco\, this unfairly treated grape can offer magnificent complexity and a smooth\, long finish. If you’re still not convinced\, esteemed wine estate Kanonkop and the innovative\, passionate guns from Black Elephant Vintners are just some of the exhibiting winemakers expected on hand\, to convert you once and for all. \n  \n \nFind out more about the Three Wine Men here.
